Kauai is one of my favorite places on earth, and I will tell you truth. The best way to see this island is with a backpack on your back and a tent. For three dollars a day you can legally camp at some of the most beautiful beaches in the world. The hostels below are all located in a town called Kapa'a which is about 20 miles from the prettiest part of the island. If you have the money to do so it is good to have a car here. If you don't have money, it is a normal thing here to hitchhike. Particularly from Kapa'a to the north shore area of Hanalei and beyond to Ke'e and the beginning of Kalaulau trail. Also most people at the campgrounds share rides or at least tell each other when they are going to to the store.

 

Kauai Beach House     Location, location, location! With ocean views from our front yard, you'll enjoy our friendly hostel and meet people from all over the world. Besides looking down onto the Blue Lagoon from our first and second floor Lanai's (decks) you can also see Ocean, Mountain, Volcano, and Island views from our other Lanai's and verandahs. As well you can sometimes see whales leaping out of the ocean on the far side of the lagoon and see them spouting like ocean geysers. Lagoon and Ocean views are seen from all the private rooms and dorms; except 2 private rooms do not share these views. You can also see the local fishing fleet pass in front of the BeachHouse going to and from the small boat harbor (Waikaea) adjacent to the right of the Blue lagoon. More info... »

Kauai International Hostel Located in Kapa'a, this hostel offers great views since they have a beach house and all. It is one of the two hostels anywhere near the north shore of Kauai.
