John?s Cozy Little Backpacker Hostel

We try to offer you be a friendly, romantic , human, cozy & a bit artistic hostel more for individuals, personalities and characters, rather than for masses, and crowds like some examples of 'hostel industry'.

Here you have a lot of possibilities
for communication with other travellers, cultural explorers and long-term stayers like german-language-students.

John's is a Super-Cozy,
very Small and Personal Hostel indeed,
with a little Kitchen which you can use,
a Cozy Living-room, where you can play your own CD's,
and simple, but quiet smoke free bed-rooms.

Single travellers especially welcome, and or little groups of up to 4 people,
where as groups bigger than 4 people we do not want.

All Rooms are free from Smoke !

Of course we have Laid Back Atmosphere !
quite informal and non-institutional.

Even there are also rules and little papers indicated how to open complicated window and other explanations.

It is the ideal place for those, who don't mind simplicity, and desire a cozy, personal, private atmosphere,
for friendly people with character.

There is one common breakfast-table and a living-room, with lots of opportunities for talks and contacts with nice international guests from all continents.

Our hostel is especially loved and appreciated
by Australians, Nr. 1 in night stayed here, followed by, by Italians 85% from Bologna suprisingly, Canada, France, then Americans, over 50% from New York or California, and 12% from Hawaii, (sorry, I am a freak of statistics sometimes) , then follow British ( 55% from London ), Brazil, Finland, Spain, Argentinia, Taiwan, Estonia, Scandinavia, Mexico, Hong Kong, Fiji-Islands Samoa, Indonesia and the Sultanate of Oman.

And Young Gays & Lesbians, Easygoing Hippies, Non-smokers, Vegetarians and Philosophers !

For some reason our hostel was surprisingly especially less appreciated by people from Shanghai (China), probably we were not fancy enough, sorry for that.

Dormitory- prices from 8 to 18 Euro,
according to the season.

Double-room-prices from 12 to 24 Euro p.p.,

No dam'd bunk-beds !

Groups up to 4 persons accepted, but no bigger groups.

Everyone gets a key or key-card.

Otherwise call for a special arrangements !

After 11 p.m. we offer a special late night service.

Therefore we charge 2 Euro extra per guest and per each started hour for waiting.


Please try to come at the time you said.

If you come more than 2 hours later than stated in your reservation, your beds might have been given away already.

People which do not come at all
Get charged at least the first night.


We speak German, English, Dutch, and Italian, French! Arabic, Israeli / Hebrew, Indonesian,

Guitar-players with own guitar, who like to play for us, might get brief reductions / discounts.

I think we represent a cozy, simple & easy-going, small hostel with personality,
more like a private home of a bigger family, for friendly & open-minded young backpackers, students and experienced globetrotter, explorer & adventurers as well.


Berlin is a city, where it makes not much sense to spend 1 or 2 days here.

It is a metropolis of the size of London and Paris or New York, but very much affordable, cheaper than any town of western Europe.

So plan to stay longer ! You will not regret it.

The new Hostel with just a few beds is in a typical Berliner building of 1895, with it's antique charm, combined with some oriental flavour, provided by some oriental elements and decorations.


'JOHN'S' has the charme of a typical Berliner building from the Kaiser-Time ( 1895), with 'Stuck' everywhere, and high ceilings of 4 meters.

The rooms have wooden floors and the 4 meter high walls are painted in the bright colours of Egypt's deserts, combined with some oriental elements, originating from the owners' favour for North-Africa & Asia,
especially of Egypt, India & Indonesia.

There is some oriental style, the wall are in desert orange, and the doors in nile-blue.
Even the bath-rooms remind on the
Arabian built Alhambra of Granada (Spain).

There are only dormitories with 3, 4, 5, 6, 8 or 11 beds,
and 2 doubles.

All Rooms have swedish wooden beds
on the wooden floors.

The hostel is completely smoke-free.
But outside in front of the doors is smoking possible.

This hostel is designed for single travellers, who like meeting other people, while they are travelling, preferable those who do not regard themselves as a part of the main-stream tourists.

It is a small place, with an atmosphere of a big family's home or of a nice students-share-house, quite relaxed, where you can feel like at a home.

Most of our guests are at the moment from Canada, Sweden, Italy and France, Japan, Denmark Sweden, Japan, England, Austria, and California / USA,

At least we are completely free of noisy groups or school-kids,
so we attract especially individual travellers with character, students, many of German language, anthropology and arts.

Groups bigger than 4 we do not want to see here,
because they might destroy our cozy atmosphere.

We try to offer a friendly, romantic , human, cozy & a bit artistic hostel, with a lot of communication among the travellers .

Since the owners are fans of Arabia, esp. Egypt,
and Asia, esp. Indonesia, India, Sri Lanka, Thailand ,Malaysia, Singapore, there is some flavour of it present.

Due to Johns special interests, fans of play-station 2 and x-box are especially welcome, as well as adventurers & explorers of Africa or Asia, Arabia or Iran, which are John's special hobbies

Some plants and paintings will provide a cozy atmosphere with a touch of an artists private home, which is open to individual backpackers, students, world-travellers, artists, and explorers of culture, history or night-life.
